News broke on Monday that Maryanne Trump Barry, former President Donald Trump’s older sister died in her Upper East Side apartment in New York. The news broke on Monday, leaving the Trump family in mourning.

Trump's Older Sister Died
Maryanne Trump Barry, 86, an American attorney and a former United States federal judge, played a significant role in the life of her younger brother Donald Trump,77. Described by the New York Times as "both his protector and critic throughout their lives," Barry's influence extended from familial bonds to professional advice.
Barry's career in law saw her appointed to the Federal District Court in New Jersey by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, a move reportedly influenced by Donald Trump's then-personal lawyer and fixer Roy Cohn. President Bill Clinton appointed her to the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1993.
After her brother won the 2016 presidential election, Barry gave up her court staff and took inactive status in early 2017, according to the Associated Press.
Despite their close relationship, tensions emerged during the final year of Donald Trump's presidency.
His niece, Mary Trump, released recordings of Barry without her consent, where Barry voiced critical opinions about the then-president. The revelations strained their relationship, with Barry expressing her disappointment in Trump's actions and principles.
In 2019, amid a probe into alleged judicial misconduct and an investigation into the family's tax records, Barry retired. She consistently denied any wrongdoing.
The circumstances surrounding Maryanne Trump Barry's death remain under investigation, with emergency crews responding to a call of a person in cardiac arrest at around 4 a.m.
No signs of trauma were reported. A spokesman for former President Trump has declined to comment on her passing.
Maryanne Trump Barry's demise marks another loss for the Trump family. Donald Trump lost his younger brother Robert S. Trump in 2020 and his first wife, Ivana Trump, in 2022.
