At this time, Democrats lead, as 46% of them are going to vote before November 5. Independents come in second, with 43% committed to getting their ballots in ahead of time. Republicans, meanwhile, lag behind, as only 36% confirmed they’d vote early in this election.
For years, the GOP has adopted an adverse disposition to early voting. Trump and other Republican officials often cast doubt on the security of ballots that are turned in before Election Day. Though some in conservative circles now fear that anti-early voting sentiment is actually hurting Republicans in these key political races.
Assessing additional voting habits
With every election cycle post-2004, there’s been a steady increase in Americans partaking in early voting.
More than half of adults 65 and up will cast ballots in person, while only a minority of younger age demographics will follow suit. Likewise, the Gallup poll revealed Democrats lean more towards voting by mail, while Republicans are more inclined to physically go to the polls.
