Escaped Inmate: Details of the Great Escape and Subsequent Capture

Thompson, akin to a magician pulling off a disappearing act, slipped out of Formby Unit around 11:14 p.m. on Saturday.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) announced his escape and cautioned the public through a social media post.

His recapture, however, was not an easy feat. It was an arduous task, like finding a needle in a haystack, but law enforcement’s perseverance paid off when they captured him near Coleman, Texas, at about 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.

The inmate’s past is as tumultuous as his recent breakout. Thompson was serving time for a trifecta of charges: three counts of aggravated robbery in Taylor County and Coleman County, and an aggravated assault on a public servant in Coleman County.
