Fate of Iranian President Still Uncertain After Helicopter Crash


A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday, sparking a massive search and rescue operation to locate the hard-right leader and other high-ranking officials on board. 

The incident occurred as the helicopter was returning from Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, following an event to inaugurate the Qiz-Qalaisi Dam, a joint project between the two countries.

An Iranian official, speaking to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, expressed deep concern for the lives of Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian. “We are still hopeful but information coming from the crash site is very concerning,” the official said.
