Greenwald draws an aside to the U.S. with Brazil, which managed to declare an electoral victor on election day with over 100 million votes. “And yet Brazil — a much poorer and less technologically advanced country than the U.S., with a much shorter history of democracy — holds seamless, quick vote counts about which very few people harbor doubts.,” Greenwald said.
To add insult to injury, polling data propagated by major media outlets also proved to be woefully inaccurate in an embarrassingly big way. It was predicted that Biden would win the election by a landslide in some cases. Looking at the state of the election this morning and it appears that the pollsters were wrong again as they had been in 2016.
Even after a victor has been declared, Greenwald insists that Americans demand of their officials that their democracy works efficiently before trotting around the globe insisting that everyone else needs to adopt American democratic values.
What’s the point of instilling global democracy when its world leader can’t even properly count ballots?
