A Grieving Community
The mass shooting has left the Hampton community, consisting of 8,500 residents located approximately an hour south of Atlanta, Georgia, in a state of mourning. “This is a sad day in Hampton. It’s not normal for us, and as a community, we will grieve together,” expressed Hampton Police Department Chief James Turner.
The Henry County Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Homeland Security, and the Henry County Crime Scene Unit are all collaborating with Hampton police in handling the incident, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Hampton Mayor Ann Tarpley has called the mass shooting “a sad and somber occasion,” expressing her full confidence in the law enforcement agencies working tirelessly to bring the gunman to justice. She further urged the public to respect the privacy of the victims’ families and support them during this distressing time.
