CASE AT A GLANCE

$20M COUNTERSUIT AMOUNT | $1.1M ALLEGED DEMAND

$20M+ LOST FIGHT PURSE | 2 CRIMINAL CHARGES

The undefeated boxing star says he was shaken down for $1.1 million and lost a career-defining payday — now he's taking the legal battle into his own corner.

NEW YORK — Gervonta "Tank" Davis isn't waiting in his corner. The undefeated WBA lightweight champion has gone on the offensive, filing a $20 million countersuit against the woman who accused him of assault — alleging that the entire episode was a calculated extortion attempt designed to shake him down for more than a million dollars.

The countersuit, filed in response to the original lawsuit stemming from an alleged altercation at a Florida strip club, lays out a starkly different version of events. Davis maintains he never struck the woman, never restrained her, and never acted in the manner her complaint describes. His legal team argues instead that she was the instigator — deliberately engineering a confrontation as part of a broader scheme to extract cash.

"He says she contacted him demanding $1.1 million to drop the allegations entirely — a demand he characterizes as textbook extortion."

Central to Davis's counterargument is evidence his attorneys say undermines the severity of the original claims. According to his filing, the accuser told her employer she was uninjured following the incident. More significantly, Davis alleges the two spent that same night together at her residence — a detail he says directly contradicts the picture of fear and violence her lawsuit paints.

But for Davis, the legal fight is about more than clearing his name. He argues the lawsuit cost him the most lucrative opportunity of his professional career.

THE JAKE PAUL FIGHT THAT NEVER HAPPENED

Davis had been positioned as a frontrunner for a high-profile bout against social-media-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul, a matchup projected to generate north of $20 million for Davis. After the lawsuit became public, Davis was removed from consideration. Paul ultimately signed to fight Anthony Joshua — a contest that generated substantial payouts for both fighters. Davis received none of it.

On that basis, Davis's countersuit includes a claim of tortious interference with business relations, arguing that the filing of what he describes as a baseless lawsuit directly caused him to lose the Paul bout and the financial windfall that came with it. If the countersuit succeeds, it would not only refute the original claims but potentially hold his accuser financially liable for the career opportunity he says was stolen.

The accuser's legal team has already moved to dismiss the counterclaim, arguing that a person cannot face civil liability simply for reporting alleged criminal conduct to authorities — a standard anti-SLAPP-style argument that courts have at times found persuasive in similar cases. That motion is pending.

The civil dispute is unfolding against an even higher-stakes backdrop.

CRIMINAL EXPOSURE: FLORIDA CHARGES STILL ACTIVE

Separate from the civil lawsuit, Davis faces active criminal charges in Florida — including attempted kidnapping and battery. Those proceedings are ongoing and represent a parallel legal track that his civil attorneys cannot resolve. A conviction on criminal charges would carry consequences far beyond any civil judgment.

Davis's team appears to be pursuing a dual strategy: aggressively contest the civil claims while the criminal case proceeds, using the countersuit both to shape public perception and to create legal pressure on his accuser. Whether that approach will be effective in either arena remains to be seen.

What is clear is that the fighter best known for finishing opponents inside the distance is not settling for a decision in court. Davis is swinging for a knockout — and he's put $20 million on the line to land it.
