After years of speculation, teaser trailers and headline-making leaks, Grand Theft Auto VI now has a confirmed global release date: November 19, 2026. Developer Rockstar Games is positioning the next chapter in its blockbuster franchise as its most ambitious project to date — but early pricing information has sparked intense debate across the gaming community.

Price Listings Stir Controversy

A recent digital storefront listing briefly showed a placeholder price of £89.99 for the standard console edition. If accurate, that figure could translate to roughly $99.99 in the U.S., significantly higher than the current $69.99 standard for many AAA titles. A separate PC listing displayed a lower £60.99 price, though Rockstar has not officially confirmed launch pricing on any platform.
It’s important to note that placeholder prices often appear ahead of major releases and don’t always reflect the final retail cost. Still, with reported development expenses estimated near $1 billion, many industry analysts believe a premium price point would not be surprising.
Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has not issued formal confirmation regarding final pricing.

A Billion-Dollar Production

Reports suggest GTA 6 may be one of the most expensive video games ever produced. The scale of development — spanning years of production, global teams, motion capture work and next-generation graphics — reportedly places its budget in the billion-dollar range.
The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, and features a modern reimagining of Vice City. For the first time in the series’ history, players will control two main protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Rockstar has indicated that character-switching mechanics will be more seamless and narratively integrated than in prior entries.

Expanded Open-World Experience

Beyond its central storyline, GTA 6 is expected to offer one of the most content-rich open worlds in gaming history. Leaks and early previews suggest a wide range of optional activities, including fishing, racing, scuba diving, robbery missions, sports mini-games and interactive interior spaces such as restaurants, clubs and shops.
Underwater exploration is also expected to play a larger role, supported by new tools and environmental systems designed to enhance immersion. For players who aim to complete every mission and side activity, total gameplay time could stretch into the hundreds of hours.

Console Launch First

Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC release has not been announced but is widely anticipated to follow later, consistent with the studio’s release pattern for previous titles. Older-generation consoles will not be supported due to technical limitations.
The game was previously expected to launch in 2025 before being delayed. While some fans expressed frustration, many industry observers viewed the postponement as a move to ensure technical polish and avoid the performance issues that have affected other high-profile releases in recent years.

Marketing Push Ahead

With months remaining before launch, Rockstar is expected to roll out additional trailers, gameplay deep dives and pre-order details. Final pricing, collector’s editions and online mode information will likely be revealed closer to release.
