A violent late-night encounter shattered the calm of downtown Chicago, as a grant park man stabbing left a young man fighting for his life after a sudden and brutal attack.

Police said the incident unfolded in Grant Park, near the 500 block of South Columbus Drive, just minutes before midnight.

Argument Turns Violent in Seconds

Authorities reported that a 23-year-old man was walking with a woman around 11:40 p.m. when another individual approached them. What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated, spiraling from words into violence in a matter of moments.

Investigators said the confrontation turned physical, and the victim was stabbed in the neck—an attack as sudden as lightning, leaving little time to react.

Suspect Flees Scene

Following the stabbing, the suspect fled the area, escaping along DuSable Lake Shore Drive, disappearing into the night as authorities rushed to respond.

Victim Hospitalized, Investigation Ongoing

Emergency responders transported the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
