Israel Lebanon 10 Days Ceasefire Announced Amid Ongoing Conflict

israel lebanon 10 days ceasefire

A fragile pause in a widening regional conflict has emerged as the israel lebanon 10 days ceasefire was announced Thursday, even as violence continues to ripple across borders like aftershocks from an unresolved quake.

U.S. President Donald Trump said leaders from both nations had agreed to a temporary halt in hostilities, offering a narrow window for diplomacy in a conflict that has spiraled rapidly.

Ceasefire Deal Reached, But Questions Linger

According to Trump, Joseph Aoun and Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to initiate a 10-day ceasefire beginning at 5 p.m. EST.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump described the agreement as a step toward “PEACE,” adding that he has tasked JD Vance and Marco Rubio with advancing negotiations toward a longer-term resolution.

He also extended invitations to both leaders for talks at the White House, signaling a renewed U.S. push for diplomacy.

Yet, like a ceasefire drawn in sand before the tide, uncertainty surrounds the agreement. Israel has not formally confirmed the deal, and its security cabinet remains in active discussions.

Lebanon Welcomes Deal as Displacement Crisis Deepens

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed the ceasefire, calling it a key objective achieved after days of negotiations.

While acknowledging the breakthrough, Salam also paid tribute to those killed and displaced, underscoring the human toll of the conflict.

Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri urged displaced residents to delay returning home until conditions stabilize, warning that the situation remains fluid.

More than 2,100 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict began, with over 1 million forced to flee their homes, according to Lebanese authorities.

Hezbollah’s Role Remains Uncertain

The Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah — a central force in the conflict — was not directly involved in the ceasefire negotiations.

A senior Hezbollah official indicated that the group’s response would depend on Israel’s full commitment to halting hostilities, leaving its participation in the ceasefire uncertain.

Regional Tensions Complicate Path to Peace

The announcement comes amid broader geopolitical strain tied to the ongoing confrontation involving Iran.

Tehran has insisted that any lasting agreement must include a halt to strikes in Lebanon. Senior Iranian official Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf emphasized that a ceasefire in Lebanon is as critical as one in Iran, highlighting the interconnected nature of the conflicts.

Despite the ceasefire announcement, Israeli forces have continued extensive airstrikes across Lebanon and maintained ground operations in the south. These actions persisted even after a separate temporary ceasefire in the Iran conflict took effect last week — an agreement whose scope remains disputed by involved parties.

Origins of the Conflict and Human Toll

The violence in Lebanon erupted last month after Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel following the start of U.S. and Israeli military operations in Iran. Israel responded with sweeping strikes, aiming to establish a broad “security zone” along its northern border.

The newly announced ceasefire stems from direct negotiations that began Tuesday, including a rare in-person meeting in Washington between Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors — the first such talks in decades.

On the Israeli side, 21 people have been killed since the broader conflict began, including victims of strikes by both Iran and Hezbollah.

A Pause, Not a Resolution

For now, the israel lebanon 10 days ceasefire offers a brief lull in a conflict that continues to evolve rapidly.

Whether this pause becomes a stepping stone toward lasting peace or merely a temporary break in a deepening crisis remains uncertain — a question hanging in the air like silence between distant explosions.
