A U.S. federal judge has ordered the release of a handwritten note purported to be Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide note, written just one month before the convicted sex offender was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell.

The document, unsealed on Wednesday, offers a rare and unsettling glimpse into Epstein’s mindset in the weeks leading up to his death. In the short note, Epstein wrote that a months-long investigation had “FOUND NOTHING!!!” and stated, “It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye.”

He continued with visible frustration: “Watcha want me to do - Bust out cryin!! NO FUN - NOT WORTH IT.”

The Note’s Discovery and Release

Epstein’s former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione — a former police officer awaiting trial for quadruple murder — claimed he found the note tucked into a book after Epstein attempted suicide in July 2019. Epstein was discovered dead in his cell a month later in what authorities ruled a suicide.

The note was previously sealed as part of legal proceedings involving Tartaglione. It was unsealed after a petition by The New York Times and with support from federal prosecutors, who argued there was no longer any compelling reason to keep it hidden. Judge Kenneth M. Karas ruled that public access to the note promotes accountability and confidence in the administration of justice.

The Real Story

This newly released note is likely to fuel even more speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s death. While authorities have consistently maintained it was a suicide, serious questions have long persisted about security failures at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on the night he died.

The note’s casual tone and claims that investigations “found nothing” stand in stark contrast to the gravity of the sex-trafficking charges Epstein was facing at the time. Its release adds another layer to one of the most controversial and closely scrutinized deaths in recent American history.

The U.S. Department of Justice has not authenticated the note and previously stated it had not seen it, though it has released millions of other Epstein-related documents in recent months.
