Miss North Carolina USA Dethroned as Old Posts Resurface

And More ı By Michallie Harrison

Empty Miss North Carolina USA chair with the titleholder’s sash and crown set aside.

Miss North Carolina USA titleholder Brittany Boltinhouse has lost her 2026 crown a little more than a month after winning it. Pageant officials ended her reign after reviewing information that surfaced as social media users circulated posts allegedly containing racial slurs.

A Blaize Productions, which operates the Miss North Carolina USA pageant, announced the decision Wednesday. The organization said it acted after careful consideration, multiple conversations and consultation with the Miss USA Organization.

Neither organization released the posts or described the specific conduct behind the decision. However, Miss USA Chairman and CEO Thom Brodeur issued a broader statement condemning racism, homophobia, transphobia and language that attacks another person’s dignity.

Miss North Carolina USA Reign Ends After Five Weeks

Judges crowned Boltinhouse, 27, Miss North Carolina USA on June 28 after she competed as Miss Wilmington. The Beulaville native had been preparing to represent North Carolina at the 75th annual Miss USA pageant in Miami later this month.

Instead, her reign ended approximately five weeks after her coronation. Organizers said the decision followed a thorough review of recently surfaced information and reflected the “totality of the circumstances.”

A Blaize Productions said it believes people can grow and that grace and accountability can exist together. The organization also maintained that titleholders accept a responsibility to represent the pageant’s standards and values publicly.

Officials asked supporters to treat Boltinhouse and her replacement with kindness during the transition. They did not explain how they authenticated the disputed posts or why the contestant-vetting process failed to uncover the material.

Reports Link Removal to Alleged Racist Posts

NC Beat, a North Carolina news outlet, reported that the controversy involved posts published under the name “Sosa the Stallion” between 2017 and 2019. The outlet said the material showed Boltinhouse repeatedly using the N-word.

Other news organizations subsequently reported on the alleged posts, but the pageant did not publish the material in its announcement. USA Herald has not independently authenticated the screenshots or confirmed that Boltinhouse controlled the account when the posts appeared.

That distinction matters because the official statements confirm that organizers reviewed a pattern of conduct and removed Boltinhouse. They do not provide a detailed public account of every post considered or independently establish the ownership of each account involved.

Brodeur said the information presented to the organization did not involve one isolated moment. He described it as conduct occurring over an extended period and said Miss USA acted as soon as the matter reached the national organization.

His statement named several forms of discrimination that Miss USA does not tolerate. However, he did not say Boltinhouse had engaged in every type of conduct listed.

Miss USA Defends Removal but Rejects Public Cruelty

Brodeur characterized a pageant title as a position of trust rather than a ceremonial prize. Titleholders agree to represent the organization publicly, he said, and cannot retain the crown when they violate that standard.

He stood behind the decision without qualification while also warning that accountability does not give the public permission to dehumanize Boltinhouse. Brodeur urged people to remember that the former titleholder still has a family, a future and a life beyond the controversy.

The Miss USA leader said he had reviewed a forthcoming statement from Boltinhouse that included ownership, accountability and an apology. Boltinhouse had not released that statement publicly when USA Herald prepared this article.

Brodeur said an apology would not reverse the harm or change the pageant’s decision. He added that a person must demonstrate genuine change through conduct over time rather than rely on a single statement.

Myla Hadley Becomes Miss North Carolina USA

First runner-up Myla Hadley has assumed the Miss North Carolina USA 2026 title under the organization’s succession rules. Hadley originally competed as Miss Charlotte and will now represent North Carolina at the national competition.

The change gives Hadley only a short period to prepare for Miss USA. Miss USA will hold the national pageant on Aug. 27, with related events beginning several days earlier in Miami.

Hadley acknowledged the unusual circumstances while thanking supporters for their messages. She said she understood the responsibility attached to the title and had been preparing for the possibility of representing North Carolina since entering the competition.

Miss USA said Hadley has the organization’s full confidence and support. Her promotion allows North Carolina to remain represented at the national pageant despite Boltinhouse’s removal.

Pageant Faces Questions About Its Vetting Process

The controversy leaves unanswered questions about how Miss North Carolina USA evaluates contestants before awarding its title. Brodeur said state pageant operators recruit, vet and approve their titleholders, while the national organization acted when the information reached its leadership. USA Herald previously reported allegations of bullying, harassment and inadequate support involving former Miss USA leadership.

A Blaize Productions did not explain what its earlier review included or how posts allegedly available for years escaped attention. The organization also did not disclose whether it independently verified the accounts or relied on material submitted after Boltinhouse’s coronation.

Pageant organizations have a legitimate interest in enforcing standards for titleholders who publicly represent their brands. Transparency about how pageant officials apply those standards can also help distinguish verified misconduct from an unproven social media accusation.

For now, the public record establishes that Boltinhouse’s reign ended after a formal review and that Miss USA considered the underlying conduct serious enough to require her removal. The specific evidence remains largely outside public view, leaving Boltinhouse’s promised statement as the next opportunity for a fuller account of what happened.
