Over the past year, countless instances of leaders and officials issuing coronavirus orders and then failing to abide by them have arisen.

Last November, Deborah Birx advised the country against traveling for the holidays; this advice preceded Birx's own decision to travel across the nation to spending Thanksgiving with her family.

Also in 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom went to a dinner with lobbyists after shutting down businesses and restaurants statewide; during this swanky event, Newsom also failed to abide by his own statewide mask mandate.

Americans are sick to death of the hypocrisy, yet it just keeps materializing. This week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi violated her own mask mandate for the floor of the House of Representatives.

Mandatory masking in the House of Representatives

Months ago, Speaker Pelosi put in place a requirement for House members to mask up. Failure to comply with this order opens up lawmakers to punitive $500 fines. Pelosi has chosen to maintain this mandate; this comes in spite of new CDC information stating that vaccinated folks need not wear masks in most settings.

In light of the House Speaker's mask order, many Americans might believe that she would abide by it. However, this belief is incorrect. Just as Pelosi got her hair done at a closed down hair salon in 2020, she socialized maskless in the White House with loads of other unmasked officials.

Republicans are now calling out what they view as the hypocrisy of the House Speaker. GOP Rep. Mark Green noted that as Pelosi demands House members to wear masks and threatens fines for those who refuse, she herself ignores both her own mask mandate and general social distancing guidelines.

The response from the House Speaker

Republicans aren't letting yet another display of "do as I say, not as I do" slip through the cracks. Therefore, Speaker Pelosi responded to accusations of hypocrisy via her spokesperson.

The spokesperson maintains that when Pelosi socialized maskless at the White House, attesting to being vaccinated against coronavirus and submission of a negative coronavirus test were both requirements for attendance.

One day before being maskless at the White House, Pelosi decried the possibility of the House floor turning into a COVID-19 "petri dish."

The House Speaker also claimed that refusal of the coronavirus vaccine is tantamount to selfishness.
