His vision has raised eyebrows and, in some cases, outright alarm among experts in the field. The idea of AI unleashed sent shockwaves through the tech community.

The Experts Speak Out

Dame Wendy Hall, a computer scientist at the University of Southampton and a member of the United Nations’ AI advisory board, expressed her concerns, stating, “The thought of open-source AGI being released before we have worked out how to regulate these very powerful AI systems is really very scary.”

She emphasized the potential risks of such technology falling into the wrong hands and deemed the proposition irresponsible.

While AGI is still in development, the urgency to establish regulatory frameworks is a matter of public safety, according to Hall.

The Institute for People-Centered AI at the University of Surrey’s director, Andrew Rogoyski, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for international consensus rather than decisions made within the confines of a tech giant’s boardroom.
