OPINION: George Santos Should Step Down From Congress

Earlier this week, New York Rep. George Santos made headlines, albeit not for a very good reason. Following President Biden’s State of the Union address, Santos found himself being called out by Sen. Mitt Romney.

Romney told Santos to his face that he did not belong in Congress. Later, Romney informed the media that Santos is a “sick puppy” who will hopefully be out of office sooner rather than later.

All of this comes against the backdrop of Santos being repeatedly exposed for the lies he told to get himself into office. The New York Republican fibbed about his family history, work history, education, resume, and more.

Santos also stands accused of allegedly robbing a veteran of fundraising donations, writing bad checks, and otherwise engaging in a series of additional crimes. Though the laundry list of lies told by the New York congressman amid his campaign for office is grounds enough for him to step down.

A stain on the Republican Party

Thanks to Santos, many Democrats have used his lies and the negative press associated with them to score political points.
