A quiet Illinois neighborhood was thrust into alarm as a pope leo's brother home bombing scare triggered evacuations and a full-scale police response — only to end with authorities declaring the threat unfounded.

The incident unfolded Wednesday evening at the home of John Prevost, located in New Lenox, Illinois, roughly 40 miles southwest of Chicago.

Police Rush to Scene After Threat Call

According to local authorities, officers were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. following a reported bomb threat targeting the residence. The home belongs to one of the older brothers of Pope Leo XIV.

Law enforcement quickly secured a perimeter, evacuating nearby homes as a precaution. Like a ripple spreading across still water, the alert forced residents out into uncertainty as emergency protocols took hold.

Specialized units, including explosive detection K9 teams, conducted what police described as a “thorough search” of both the home and surrounding property.

Threat Deemed Unsubstantiated

After sweeping the area, investigators concluded there were no explosive devices or hazardous materials present. The bomb threat was ultimately classified as unsubstantiated.

No injuries were reported, and residents who had been evacuated were later allowed to return safely to their homes.

Micah D. Nuesse confirmed Thursday that the investigation into the origin of the threat remains active and ongoing.

Authorities Warn of Serious Consequences

Police emphasized that false reports of this nature carry significant legal consequences, urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

NBC News attempted to reach Prevost for comment but had not received a response as of Thursday.

Incident Emerges Amid Political Tensions

The scare comes against the backdrop of a growing and highly public feud between Pope Leo XIV and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The dispute intensified earlier this week after Trump criticized the pope as “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy” following Leo’s opposition to the war with Iran. The pope responded defiantly, stating he has “no fear” of the administration and would continue advocating for peace.

Trump later posted — and deleted — an AI-generated image depicting himself as a Christ-like figure, adding another layer of controversy to the exchange.

Authorities have not established any connection between the bomb threat and the escalating rhetoric.

Pope Continues Overseas Mission

Meanwhile, Pope Leo XIV is in the midst of an 11-day visit to North Africa honoring Saint Augustine, whose teachings emphasized that war is only justified to protect the innocent.

During a stop in Annaba, the pope spoke emotionally about global conflict, saying, “God’s heart is torn apart by wars, violence, injustice and lies.”

He added, “Our Father’s heart is not with the wicked, the arrogant or the proud.”
