Firefighters ultimately had to cut apart the plastic structure using specialized rescue equipment before freeing the unidentified man, who later told officials he had climbed into the tank while attempting to retrieve a bottle of Mountain Dew.

According to Patriot Portable Restrooms, workers preparing to collect and transport the portable toilets initially believed someone inside one of the units simply refused to come out. As employees investigated further, they realized the man had somehow become wedged inside the waste holding tank beneath the toilet seat and was unable to escape.

Emergency crews from the Kansas City Fire Department responded to the scene after hearing the man's calls for help.

Temperatures had climbed into the low 90s, while humidity pushed the heat index even higher, creating dangerous conditions for someone trapped inside the enclosed plastic structure for several hours.

Man Says He Was Retrieving a Bottle of Mtn. Dew

According to Patriot Portable Restrooms, the man claimed he entered the tank after accidentally dropping a bottle of Mountain Dew into the portable toilet.

Company officials said the bottle had fallen into the holding tank beneath the seat, prompting him to attempt to retrieve it.

The explanation immediately generated skepticism online because the holding tanks beneath most portable toilets are generally only about 18 to 24 inches deep. In many cases, a dropped object would be within arm's reach without requiring someone to climb completely inside.

Officials have not publicly confirmed exactly how the man entered the tank or whether other circumstances contributed to the unusual situation.

Firefighters Forced to Cut Open the Unit
