This salary adjustment is part of a broader initiative to align with or surpass the offerings of competing firms, ensuring the retention and attraction of high-caliber professionals.

The decision by Potter Anderson to raise the starting salary underscores its proactive approach to market trends. “Monitoring market changes and adjusting salaries accordingly is crucial for maintaining our competitive edge,” Walsh noted. This move places Potter Anderson on par with local and national firms that have also escalated their pay scales, such as Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor LLP, which recently set its starting salary at $210,000. However, both firms remain just shy of the $225,000 starting salary benchmark set by industry leader Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP.
