While Sabrina Carpenter’s infectious pop anthems continue to captivate fans, some listeners believe her latest lyrics may carry more personal significance—particularly regarding her past relationship with Shawn Mendes. Carpenter’s album, Short n' Sweet, contains lyrics that fans interpret as cryptic nods to Mendes and his on-again, off-again romance with Camila Cabello.

In Taste, she sings, “You’re wonderin’ why half his clothes went missin’ / My body’s where they at,” an apparent reference to Mendes’ frequently shirtless photos. Later in the song, she seems to hint at the rekindling of Shawn and Camila’s relationship, suggesting she’s still in the background: “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you.” These lyrics have left fans buzzing, interpreting them as hints of a lingering love triangle.

Coincidence, another standout track, dives deeper into what some fans believe was a love triangle. Carpenter’s lyrics describe a situation where a lover’s ex has a “sixth sense” for the couple’s meet-ups. She sings, “Now her name comes up once, then it comes up twice… Now she’s in the same damn city on the same damn night,” leaving listeners convinced it’s about Camila’s return to Shawn’s life. With Mendes and Cabello’s Coachella reunion reigniting reconciliation rumors, Carpenter’s line, “Palm Springs looks nice, but who’s by your side?” only fuels fan theories.

Carpenter’s New Relationship with Barry Keoghan

Despite the playful but pointed lyrics, Carpenter’s current relationship is with Irish actor Barry Keoghan, known for his role in Saltburn. After rumors of their romance began circulating in late 2023, the couple went public in February 2024. Keoghan even appeared in the music video for her track Please Please Please, further confirming their relationship. Fans suspect her song Bed Chem references him, as she mentions a “cute boy in a white jacket,” a detail linked to their first encounter.

Mendes Opens Up About the “Complexity” of His Sexuality

On another front, Mendes recently addressed long-standing speculation about his sexuality during a concert in Colorado. As he gears up for the release of his self-titled album on November 15, Mendes shared that navigating personal identity in the public eye has been challenging. “Since I was really young, there’s this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it for so long,” he admitted. Mendes described his journey as “beautifully complex” and expressed a desire to feel free to explore his identity without judgment.
