From the brilliant glow of the supermoon to meteor showers and the appearance of a new comet, October promises an unforgettable celestial showcase. Whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or simply curious, all you need to do is find a dark spot, tilt your head back, and enjoy the show.

Timeline of October 2025 Sky Events

  • October 4 – International Observe the Moon Night
    A global celebration where communities host moon-viewing parties and astronomy events. Great warm-up for the supermoon.
  • October 6 – Supermoon
    The Moon reaches perigee, appearing up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual. Best viewed at moonrise for dramatic effect.
    • October 6–10 – Draconid Meteor Shower
      Meteors radiating from the Draco constellation. Peak activity expected October 8, with about 10 meteors per hour under dark skies (though visibility may be reduced due to the supermoon).
  • October 21 – Orionid Meteor Shower
    Caused by debris from Halley’s Comet. Peak activity around midnight with about 20 meteors per hour. Visibility will be excellent this year thanks to the new moon.Late October – Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN)
    Newly renamed comet expected to become more visible in the western sky after sunset as it moves away from twilight glare. Could be a spectacular sight if conditions are right.
