During these stops, bodycam footage showed them giving inconsistent responses about their travels.
Unidentified DNA Evidence and Defense Strategy
Investigators recovered two unidentified male blood samples—one from a handrail inside the crime scene and another from a glove found outside. Neither sample matched Kohberger. And they originated from two separate individuals.
Kohberger’s defense attorney, Anne Taylor, argued before Judge Steven Hippler in Ada County that these findings indicate her client may not have been involved in the murders.
“That was an interesting piece of information,” said Boise-based defense attorney Edwina Elcox. “I think the defense tries to raise the issue and muddy the waters with it.”
However, during pretrial proceedings, the judge appeared unconvinced that the presence of unidentified DNA was sufficient to dismiss the probable cause for Kohberger’s arrest.
The Knife Sheath
Prosecutors argue that the most damning piece of evidence against Kohberger is a Ka-Bar knife sheath found beneath one of the victims, Madison Mogen. Investigators claim Kohberger’s DNA was discovered on the sheath’s snap.
