News of her death spread on Twitter. The U.S. Soccer Federation tweeted, “The thoughts and hearts of the entire U.S. Soccer Federation are with the family, friends, teammates and loved ones of Katie Meyer.
The NCAA posted, “We join Stanford in mourning the loss of Katie Meyer. Our condolences to her family, friends, and teammates.”

A tribute was posted on March 2nd on the Stanford website. The University said Katie was “extraordinarily committed to everything and everyone in her world,” adding that “friends describe her as a larger-than-life team player in all her pursuits.”
“We are struggling to know what happened, and why it happened,” she shared. “We’re just heartbroken, so heartbroken.”
