This intense heat, with temperatures soaring into the 90s, will extend from the Southwest, traversing the southern Plains, Midwest, Southeast, mid-Atlantic, and reaching the Northeast by Thursday. Despite the scorching conditions, the FOX Forecast Center does not foresee a significant number of record-breaking temperatures.
Heat Alerts: Warnings and Advisories
In response to the escalating temperatures, millions of Americans from the West Coast to Florida have been placed under Excessive Heat Warnings or Heat Advisories. These advisories span expansive regions from the Southwest to the Plains, with South Florida also receiving Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories.
Notably, the Sunshine State has been under these alerts for an unbroken stretch of over 20 consecutive days.
FOX Weather meteorologist Jason Frazer emphasized the anomaly of the situation, stating, “Florida, it does get hot…but we’ve been historically seeing temperatures anywhere between 10 to about 15 degrees above where they should be for this time of year.” It is anticipated that the heat alerts will extend further as the heat intensifies across the US.
Staying Safe in the Heat
During this hottest week, it is crucial for people to take appropriate safety measures. The severe heat has already claimed several lives this summer, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. Tragic incidents reported include at least two people in Death Valley National Park, California, and a 10-month-old child left alone in a hot car in Florida. Texas has also seen several heat-related deaths since June.
