Ferguson, who joined the nonprofit in February 2022, rose through its ranks, eventually overseeing operations, technology, and special projects. Yet his career came to a screeching halt in January 2024, following his role in assisting employees who alleged harassment by senior leaders.
In one instance, Ferguson directed a harassed employee to contact the human resources and legal departments. Days later, he reported another harassment case involving a top executive. Instead of praise for his integrity, Ferguson alleges, he was labeled “the problem” and dismissed under dubious claims of dishonesty and payment process violations.
Fallout and Repercussions
The consequences of Ferguson’s termination have been dire. According to the complaint, the fallout has left him unemployed, financially devastated, and grappling with emotional and reputational harm. His HIV-positive status has only compounded the challenges, as the loss of employment benefits forced him to shoulder steep medical costs out of pocket.
