Mattel, the American toy manufacturing giant, has landed in hot water after a significant oversight on the packaging for its “Wicked” movie dolls, as reported by Consequence. 

The highly anticipated “Wicked” film, based on the Tony-winning Broadway musical, is set to hit theaters in the U.S. on November 22.

Mattel’s dolls inspired by the film’s characters are already on shelves and available online. Retailers like Target, Amazon, and Kohl’s are selling these special edition dolls, but there’s a twist that has parents concerned.

A Wicked Link 

In a surprising error, Mattel mistakenly printed a link to a pornographic website on the back of the dolls' packaging. While the correct web address for the film is www.wickedmovie.com, the packaging lists only “wicked.com,” an entirely different site.

The incorrect link, found above the product’s barcode, leads to a site requiring users to be 18 years or older.

The website for Wicked Pictures, a producer of adult content, describes itself as “a company committed to producing quality parody porn movies.” 

The site also mentions popular titles such as “Black Widow XXX” and “Captain Marvel XXX: an Axel Braun Parody.”

Social Media Reacts

Social media users were quick to notice the blunder. 

X user TheVallyD commented, “Oh my dear god, Mattel accidentally listed ‘Wicked dot com’ (porn site) instead of ‘Wickedmovie dot com’ (official site) on the Wicked movie doll boxes. And it seems to be on most of the boxes in the assortment.”

About the Film

“Wicked,” an adaptation of the popular musical, follows the friendship between Elphaba, the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. 

The musical adaptation is based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 book, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” And also draws heavily from the 1939 film adaptation, “The Wizard of Oz” which starred Judy Garland as Dorothy.

The film is already getting a lot of attention from the critics. It stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

As of now, Mattel has not announced a recall for the affected dolls.
