To drive home this point, Phillips repeatedly points to polls that show Biden down several points to Trump, carrying low approval ratings, and otherwise struggling. The Minnesota Democrat has also made the case that political leadership needs a younger generation to take the helm.
The day before Christmas Eve, Phillips said on X that the Democrat Party is “sleepwalking into disaster.” To fix this, the congressman believes Biden ought to step down and “cement his legacy” by passing along the baton.
Conflicting views on Biden’s chance of winning the nomination
Certain Democrats (like Phillips) believe the fix is in for Biden; though many Republicans suspect the Democratic establishment will eventually deem the current president as unfit and unable to win before ultimately forcing him out.
Some GOP members even float the theory that California Gov. Gavin Newsom will emerge and secure the Democratic nomination in the eleventh hour.
In the meantime, Dean Phillips has made it clear that his campaign is here to stay.
