Texas Governor Greg Abbott is pushing back against President Joe Biden's energy policies, which he considers as "federal overreach."

On Thursday,  Gov. Abbott vowed that his administration will pursue aggressive legal actions against the Biden administration's efforts that will threaten the Lone Star State's energy industry.

He signed an Executive Order instructing "every state agency to use all lawful powers and tools to challenge any federal action that threatens the continued strength, vitality, and independence of the energy industry."

Gov. Abbott's Executive Order also directed state agencies to "identify potential litigation, notice-and-comment opportunities, and any other means of preventing federal overreach within the law.

In a statement, Gov. Abbott said, "Texas is a pro-energy state, and we will not sit idly by and allow the Biden administration or local governments to destroy jobs and raise energy costs for Texas families."

"My Executive Order will help ensure that the federal government cannot take away the livelihoods of Texans who work so hard to provide our state and our nation with the energy we need," he added.

Furthermore, the governor emphasized that the workers in the energy industry are important to Texas' economy.

Gov. Abbott will veto any green new deal policy

During a press conference in Odessa, Gov. Abbott made it clear, "Texas is going to protect the oil and gas industry from any type of hostile attack from Washington, D.C." He added that he will not allow the Biden administration to "kill jobs...across the entire region.

The governor also stated that he also supports legislation prohibiting cities and counties from banning natural gas appliances.  "In Texas, we will not let cities use political correctness to dictate what energy source you use," said Gov. Abbott.

Moreover, he said, "If anybody passes a green new deal type policy in Texas it'll be met with a governor's veto and not become law in our state."

Gov. Abbot's move comes after President Joe Biden signed a series of executive orders to address climate change including stopping oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters.

Pres. Biden is implementing bold measure to address climate change

During his remarks on Wednesday, Biden said the worsening climate change is a "maximum threat" and "an existential threat" that must be addressed with a "greater sense of urgency."  He said, "In my view, we’ve already waited too long to deal with this climate crisis and we can’t wait any longer.  We see it with our own eyes, we feel it, we know it in our bones, and it’s time to act."

Additionally, Pres. Biden said emphasized that his executive actions to tackle climate change will create millions of good-paying jobs for Americans. He said his administration will implement bold measures to help "revitalize the economies of coal, oil, and gas, and power plant communities.  We have to start by creating new, good-paying jobs, capping those abandoned wells, reclaiming mines, turning old brownfield sites into new hubs of economic growth, creating new, good-paying jobs in those communities where those workers live because they helped build this country."
