With South Carolina's primary election arriving in a matter of weeks, former Gov. Nikki Haley is campaigning on the ground, working to earn the support of voters. Her presidential campaign recently invested millions in ads that will run across the state up until February 24.

Should Haley win the Republican Party's nomination, multiple polls have shown her defeating Biden in a general election. The former South Carolina governor's ability to win over not just GOP voters, but also Independents, moderates, and non-partisans is an asset that would yield dividends in a general election.

Just earlier this week, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu made it very clear that he believes Haley has what it takes to win her home state's primary.

Sununu on Haley's chances in South Carolina

During an interview with NewsNation, the Republican governor highlighted the extent to which Haley's gained support since starting her run for the White House.

Sununu underscored that the former Palmetto State governor is not only "surging," but also managed to get other now-former hopefuls out of the race. With contenders like DeSantis, Pence, Ramaswamy, Scott, and Christie suspending their campaigns, the primary is now down to Nikki Haley vs. Donald Trump.

The New Hampshire governor first drew attention to Haley's time leading the Palmetto State. In doing so, Sununu said her record gives her an edge to talk about wins that Trump won't have in his back pocket.

When asked about polls that show Trump leading in South Carolina, Sununu said it's best not to put too much stock in that. According to the New Hampshire governor, primaries often come down to what transpires in the weeks and days ahead of the race.

Finally, he made a point of noting that much "opportunity" lies ahead for Haley, stressing that what truly matters in South Carolina is the "final result."

Here's what's happened so far

Since South Carolina's primary kicked off, Haley's managed to bring in millions from donors. Much of this followed comments from former President Trump, who warned that anyone donating to Haley would find themselves "permanently barred" from his MAGA movement.

Haley fundraised off this, even selling t-shirts reading "Permanently Barred." On top of hosting campaign events, she's also emphasizing why Americans deserve better than another general election of Trump vs. Biden.
