Arise Virtual Solutions Misclassification Suit

In a significant legal maneuver, Arise Virtual Solutions Inc., a prominent player in customer service partnering with companies like Comcast, has consented to pay $3 million and cease operations in the District of Columbia, putting an end to a prolonged legal battle initiated by the D.C. Attorney General in 2022.

Arise Virtual Solutions Misclassification Suit : Misclassification Allegations Resolved

D.C. Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb announced on Tuesday that Arise Virtual Solutions Inc. had reached a consent order with his office, effectively terminating the misclassification lawsuit. The lawsuit was rooted in claims that the company had misclassified its workers as independent contractors, thus depriving them of entitled benefits such as overtime pay, minimum wages, and sick leave.

Schwalb emphasized the significance of the settlement, stating, “This settlement puts more than $2 million into the pockets of workers Arise took advantage of in a misclassification scheme — an illegal practice that is, unfortunately, all too common in the district.”

Financial Repercussions and Worker Compensation

Under the terms of the settlement, around 250 customer service agents based in D.C. will receive approximately $2 million in compensation. Additionally, Arise will pay close to $940,000 in civil penalties to the district. The cessation of operations in D.C. is also mandated as part of the settlement agreement.
