Operation Brace Yourself: Unmasking the Network
Cox didn’t act alone. He was indicted in June 2023 alongside co-conspirators Brett Blackman and Gregory Schreck during a sweeping crackdown known as Operation Brace Yourself, a coordinated Justice Department strike targeting telehealth fraud across the country.
The trio, authorities say, built a well-oiled machine of manipulation, using telemarketers to pressure vulnerable seniors into accepting unnecessary braces, while doctors signed off on the orders without ever seeing or evaluating patients.
Their fraudulent claims clogged Medicare with over $1.4 billion in billing, siphoning taxpayer dollars with the efficiency of a data breach wrapped in white coats.
