Austria is grappling with a surge in fake companies, according to recent data from the Finance Ministry, which is optimistic that a new law will help curb the trend.

Finance Ministry Reports Alarming Findings

In a statement released Sunday, the Finance Ministry revealed that Austria’s anti-fraud office scrutinized approximately 15,000 employees across around 7,100 companies in the first quarter of 2024. This extensive effort, aimed at combating tax evasion and fraud, led to 2,100 criminal complaints and fines totaling nearly €5 million ($5.4 million).

Austria Fake Companies : Rising Trend of Bogus Companies

The ministry highlighted a troubling increase in bogus companies, noting that authorities identified 39 fake companies in the first quarter of the year, up from 28 during the same period in 2023. The rise in Austria fake companies is seen as a significant challenge that needs addressing.

Austria Fake Companies : New Law to Combat Fraud

To address the growing issue of Austrian fake companies, a new anti-fraud law is under review. The ministry stated that this law aims to “take more effective action against the various fraud scenarios” involving fake companies.
