That does serious damage to the majority of the legal paths the president has to maintain the presidency but, as we will explore in future columns, it does not end every chance he has.

Biden celebrated his Electoral College victory in a speech on Monday evening where he coughed throughout the entire thing.

Biden said that democracy was “pushed, tested, threatened.” But he said democracy showed that it is “resilient, true, and strong.”

“The flame of democracy was lit in this nation a long time ago,” he said. “And we now know that nothing, not even a pandemic or an abuse of power, can extinguish that flame.”

The former vice president said that his 306 Electoral votes, the same number that President Trump secured in 2016, was “by (Trump’s) own standards, these numbers represent a clear victory then, and I respectfully suggest they do so now.”

Biden said that even though the nation is deeply divided, he would be “a president for all Americans” who will “work just as hard for those of you who didn’t vote for me as I will for those who did.”
