A CBS News spokesperson stated that Herridge’s personal belongings had already been delivered to her home and assured that the remaining files would be handed over in accordance with her wishes.

The controversy surrounding Herridge’s departure coincides with ongoing legal battles rooted in her commitment to protecting journalistic sources.

Safeguarding Sources

Dating back to her tenure at Fox News, Herridge has been embroiled in a high-stakes court case involving her refusal to disclose sources for articles she wrote in 2017.

A judge demanded she reveal sources she used in a series of articles about a Chinese American scientist being investigated by the FBI. The scientist was but never charged with a crime.

Herridge could face fines of up to $5,000 per day if she refuses to be interviewed under oath for the ongoing case.

Journalists nationwide, are closely monitoring the case which underscores broader challenges faced by reporters in safeguarding the confidentiality of their sources.
