The announcement comes as AMD looks to challenge Nvidia’s (NVDA) near-monopoly in AI GPUs. Nvidia currently controls approximately 90% of the market and has recently made a $100 billion investment in OpenAI, in addition to a $5 billion collaboration with Intel (INTC).

Wall Street analysts see the AMD deal as a turning point. Barclays’ Tom O’Malley called the milestone-based structure “mutually beneficial,” estimating it could add $18 billion in annual revenue and $3 per share in quarterly earnings by 2030.

Citi’s Atif Malik highlighted that the deal also boosts Astera Labs (ALAB), a networking infrastructure provider tied to AMD’s Helios platform. Malik called Helios a “key catalyst for the broader AI hardware landscape.”
