This escalation was triggered by the October 7 attack by Hamas, a group designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government. In this attack, Hamas fighters reportedly killed over 1,400 civilians and soldiers in Israel, with nearly 200 individuals taken hostage.

In response to this attack, Israel initiated a bombing campaign and imposed severe restrictions on the Gaza Strip, including cutting off water, power, and fuel supplies.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the Arab American Civil Rights League filed a lawsuit on Monday. They assert that the Israeli bombing campaign has transformed the Gaza Strip into an active war zone. They also accuse the U.S. government of discrimination by evacuating U.S. citizens from Israel while not doing the same for Palestinian Americans in Gaza.
