It's no secret that stress takes a significant toll on the human psyche and body. People who are constantly stressed out - for whatever reason - become more vulnerable to health complications.

Fatigue, muscle pain, and even a weaker immune system are among the adverse effects that stem from stress. To avoid these problems, cutting back on certain triggers, being mindful of what you're exposed to, and embracing positive lifestyle habits tend to bode well.

Today, many people rely upon different self-care techniques to reduce or avoid stress in their lives. Gua sha, a popular, South Asian form of facial upkeep, falls into this category and may prove worth your while.

How gua sha can relieve stress

Firm, facial scraping with a smooth-edged gua sha stimulates overall wellness in several ways. This nicely promotes relaxation, while also soothing the nervous system. A nervous system that's not frazzled by stress can then conserve energy resources that would otherwise go towards releasing cortisol and adrenaline.

On TikTok and YouTube, many gua sha practitioners share anecdotal stories of the skincare routine's positive impacts. Depending on whether you gua sha in the morning or evening, each pampering session can help you start the day with a rejuvenated look or go to sleep with a de-puffed, nicely massaged face.

Gua sha's favorable effects on the nervous system have also been tied to emotional wellness and a higher quality of sleep. Both of these are central to avoiding stress and enjoying a well-balanced life.
