Lawrence ‘Larry’ Ray,63, was convicted in April and charged with a decade-long reign of terror on his daughters’ friends. And he created the Sarah Lawrence sex cult in a dorm of the elite liberal university. 

When Ray arrived at Sarah Lawrence College in 2010, he pretended he was a friend and mentor to the young men and women who lived in the dormitory with his daughter.

Ray talked about ancient philosophy. Lying about his life. And pretending to take an interest in the young people soon ingratiated himself. But he was grooming his victims. He was educated in mind control. And studied all about cults. And used his knowledge to develop a Sarah Lawrence sex cult. 

Prosecutors described how Ray manipulated his daughter’s 20-something roommates. In 2010, he moved in with them in their campus dormitory. And he stayed for a decade.

They were all Sarah Lawrence students. And they all agreed to allow him to stay. Ray’s daughter Talia has been charged as an accessory.

According to four of his victims’ testimony, he abused them by first gaining their trust. Ray coerced his daughter’s roommates to perform sex acts on each other. He treated them all like slaves. And eventually isolated them from their parents and support systems.

He sexually humiliated and beat his followers. There was video evidence of beatings and abuse presented in the case.

Then he intimidated them to get false confessions which he used ‌to extort millions of dollars for himself. He continued as leader of the University-based cult till his arrest in 2020.

He was convicted of extortion, sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and a myriad of other charges.

Ray was sentenced to 60 years on Friday, by Judge Lewis J. Liman of the Federal District Court in Manhattan.

The prosecutor argued for life in prison. And he told the court Larry Ray was “incapable of contrition.” And claimed he would be dangerous if he was ever freed from prison.

“While the defendant’s victims descended into self-hatred, self-harm, and suicidal attempts under his coercive control,” prosecutors wrote, “the evidence showed that the defendant took sadistic pleasure in their pain and enjoyed the fruits of their suffering.”

The Sarah Lawrence sex cult father who forced his daughter’s roommates to perform sex acts on each other and who he treated like slaves was today jailed for 60 years by a judge who labeled his crimes ‘pure and simple sadism’.

His crimes came to light in 2019 when New York Magazine’s The Cut published an expose. Some of the followers remained loyal to him. Others became witnesses against him.

Claudia Drury, now 31, said ‘His evil withered us. I feel profoundly violated in a way that I cannot fully communicate.’ 

‘It was sadism. Pure and simple,’ said Judge Liman, adding Ray used his ‘evil genius’ to control the kids.”

The 63-year-old Larry Ray will most likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.
