Following a Florida Department of Law Enforcement aka FDLE investigation, Regina Hill, 58, was arrested.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 24-63 Monday, suspending the City Commissioner for the City of Orlando, Regina Hill, in accordance with the Florida Constitution.

He will likely choose another person to serve out Hill’s term.

FDLE Investigation

 The investigation, prompted by a complaint forwarded to FDLE by the Office of the Attorney General, unearthed disturbing allegations of Hill's exploitation of a vulnerable 96-year-old citizen. 

Hill's initial involvement with the elderly victim arose from her civic duties, discovering the victim living in appalling conditions.  Hill orchestrated the cleanup of the victim's home and engaged various community resources to aid her. 

But within a month, Hill managed to secure power of attorney over the elderly woman. A allegedly financially exploited her for three-years.

During this time, she obtained a second power of attorney, using it to purchase another residence valued at over $400,000. The elderly victim unwittingly served as a co-signor on the purchase.

Hill took up residence in another property owned by the victim, and used $15,400 of the victim's funds for renovations, all without her consent. 

Hill's exploitation extended to the victim's personal financial accounts. And she is accused of siphoning off over $100,000 for her own personal gain.

Hill Arrest

On March 27, 2024, Hill was indicted on three counts of Exploitation of an Elderly Person or Disabled Person Greater than $50,000, one count of Scheme to Defraud of $50,000 or More.

As well as one count of Fraudulent Use of Personal Identification Over $100,000, and one count of Mortgage Fraud Greater than $100,000. 

FDLE Orlando Special Agent in Charge, John Vecchio, emphasized the importance of public trust in leaders.  “The public’s trust in its leaders is essential. Officials who commit crimes against those they represent will be investigated and held accountable. I commend our agents and partners whose work helps ensure that the people of Central Florida are protected,” he said.

Hill is in the Orange County Jail, where she remains held on a $40,000 bond. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of 180 years in prison.
