All of this plays a role in the state’s ability to recover from Idalia, mitigate damages, and help folks in need.
The Florida governor also confirmed that unlike 2022’s Hurricane Ian, Idalia thankfully didn’t lead to as much loss of life. Though once the storm passed, first responders in Florida immediately got to work.
This involved providing necessary services and otherwise helping communities that suffered harsher impacts from Hurricane Idalia.
In another great sign for Floridians, at least 370,000 people who lost power have since had it restored. All in all, it’s clear that leaders in the Sunshine State remain hard at work to get everything up and running as it was prior to Idalia.
Dissuading bad actors in the aftermath of Idalia
Despite the steps Florida’s taking towards a speedy recovery, certain communities still suffered more from Idalia than others. In harder hit areas, rumors have begun to surface of looters looking to take advantage of the devastation.
To this end, DeSantis warned anyone who may consider pillaging communities to think twice.
