Gainesville police have been preparing for months. The cost is estimated to be nearly half a million dollars in security. In addition, UF President Kent Fuchs urged students not to attend Spencer’s speech, implying strongly that it is not in line with the University’s views.
In a statement, Gov. Scott said that while “we live in a country where everyone has the right to voice their opinion…we have zero tolerance for violence and public safety is always our number one priority.”
