During last week's Democratic National Convention, Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted her party's nomination. Since entering the 2024 White House race, Harris has managed to garner overwhelming support with her own party, among women, and even with some Republicans and Independents who've reached their wit's end with former President Trump.

So far, polls show Harris in dead heat with her GOP opponent in the nation's various battleground areas. Arizona, Pennsylvania, and other similar swing states are going to be make-or-break in the November race. Both presidential contenders are thus eager to pick up as many votes as possible to avoid losing to the other in less than 70 days.

Amid the aftermath of the DNC, new surveys are being made available to the public. One from Quinnipiac University has the vice president carrying a multi-point lead over her rival.

The latest on Harris vs. Trump in 2024

49% of likely voters presently say they'll back Harris in November, while only 47% said the same about Trump. This matchup includes Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver and Green Party contender Jill Stein, both of which garnered only 1%.

When removing Oliver and Stein from the race, however, Harris still keeps her lead over Trump. Though it drops from 49% to 48%. The former president, on the other hand, sees a slight bump in support, taking him from 47% to 48%.

These new findings from Quinnipiac University remain consistent with other polls showing third-party candidates pose a greater threat to Trump's presidential aspirations than to Harris'.

When further breaking down the numbers, it's revealed that Harris has greater in-party support than her Republican rival. Today, 98% of Democrats are backing the vice president, while 94% of GOP members support Trump.

Independents, on the other hand, are more of a mixed bag. 45% are in favor of Harris, while another 45% are behind the former president. The remaining 10% of Independent voters could therefore be pivotal in taking either the current vice president or Trump across the finish line in November.

Unlike previous White House elections, this one has seen a notable gender gap. Harris leads with women voters by double digits. Trump, meanwhile, performs far better with male voters than female voters.
