Joaquin Altenberg recently rented a luxury apartment at Avenue Grove, a prestigious high-rise building in downtown Houston, TX. Despite facing a huge $9 million+ judgment against him in a recent lawsuit, Altenberg seems adamant about living the high life, even if it means skirting the law.

To make matters worse, it appears that Avenue Grove has intentionally marketed and reserved for specific applicants only.  According to sources, several African American applicants who were more financially qualified than Joaquin Altenberg for the apartment were denied access, despite having met all of the building’s other criteria. While the USA Herald is continuing to gather evidence of discrimination, race likely played a role in this decision.

It’s unlikely that the current residents of the luxury apartment complex are aware of Altenberg’s dubious past. In a past judgment, he was held liable for $5.5 million dollars in interest and over $1.7M in legal fees based on the finding of “egregious fraud and misrepresentation.” This decision came after proceedings proved that Altenberg breached his fiduciary duty while managing a development fund for solar power projects. He also failed to provide evidence that his actions were fair.
