For going on two weeks now, there's been some dissension surrounding the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Rogan is known for having all kinds of guests on his podcast and discussing a series of issues. Over time, the Joe Rogan Experience has gained massive popularity, bringing in as many as 11 million listeners.

However, not everyone is a fan. Some folks, namely those on the left, decided Rogan should lose his business deal with Spotify because of statements he made regarding coronavirus and other matters.

One of the most common, anti-Rogan talking points is that the podcaster is circulating so-called misinformation. In the wake of this, many left-wing creators ordered Spotify to remove their content as a means of protesting against Rogan's presence on the streaming platform.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has also publicly spoken about the controversy shrouding Rogan's podcast; the CEO noted advisory notifications will be placed on content pertaining to COVID. However, Ek also maintained that censorship of Rogan is not the appropriate solution.

With all the drama playing out over Rogan's presence on Spotify, Rumble, a Canada-based video service, offered him $100 million over four years to bring the Joe Rogan Experience over to their platform.

This is an offer which Rogan has declined.

Why Rogan turned down Rumble's business proposition

During an event in Austin, Texas earlier this week, the podcaster was asked about whether he'd take up Rumble on their business offer. To this end, Rogan stated he would not. He then mentioned that Spotify has had his back.

Finally, Rogan urged everyone to wait and see what transpires. In the wake of backlash against certain things said on the Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan has issued a series of apology videos.

Censorship vs. open dialogue

Debates over the Joe Rogan Experience podcast are a microcosm of a larger societal conflict.

There are some people who believe that anyone who makes certain remarks they don't like should face expatriation and censorship. Many of these folks are the ones calling for Spotify to boot Rogan off their platform.

Then, other individuals believe in open dialogue and the free exchange of ideas; this is applicable even when faced with talking points and statements that everyone doesn't like or agree with.

Only one side in the censorship vs. open dialogue debate can ultimately prevail. The two are inherently at odds with one another.
