The Trial of the Grandpa Gangsters

The accused—some of whom are grandfathers—include men like Aomar Ait Khedache (“Old Omar”), 68, who has admitted involvement but denies leading the gang. Another, Yunice Abbas, 71, allegedly fled the scene on a bicycle. Several suspects dispute the accusations outright.

Twelve individuals were originally charged in the 2016 heist. One died, and one—Pierre Bouianere, 80—will be tried separately due to medical complications. The ten now standing trial face severe penalties if convicted, and at their age, its likely to be a life-sentence.

Kardashian’s testimony could be the trial’s pivotal moment. Her presence in court brings gravity to proceedings that might otherwise seem surreal. She isn’t just a celebrity witness—she’s a victim still processing the trauma. Her appearance, is both a statement of courage and respect for the French judicial system.
