In an op-ed about her new registration earlier this month, Sinema explained that “lived experiences,” rather than labels or major political parties, often impact how Arizonans live their lives.

Furthermore, it is the congresswoman’s view that her status as a political Independent is taking a stance against fringe extremism. This extremism exists on both sides of the aisle as well.

Additional pointers in Sinema’s op-ed mention that Republicans and Democrats have failed to embrace “diversity of thought.” Ultimately, diversity of thought is the driving principle behind Sinema becoming an Independent.

The future of the electorate?

Across the nation, many Americans’ views do not systemically fall in line with the Republican or Democrat Parties.

Therefore, there is a case to make that a voter bloc comprising Independents, moderates, centrists, and unaffiliated voters will continue to increase as time passes.

If this happens, the GOP and Democrat Party will need to work to win over this coalition. This will consequently demand rejecting the most extreme voices on either side of the aisle, while embracing an open tent strategy.
