Fentanyl-laced pills

An FBI operation in Massachusetts has uncovered one of the largest single-location drug seizures in New England. Authorities found more than 220 pounds of Fentanyl-laced pills pressed into the shape of pink candy hearts.

Authorities believe that the color and shape of the controlled substances were intentional to appeal to teenagers and young adults.

Drug Bust of Fentanyl-laced pills

Three Massachusetts men were arrested during this operation. 25-year-old Emilio Garcia, 33-year-old Sebastien Bejin, and 40-year-old Deiby Felix, all residents of Lynn, Massachusetts are charged with possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.

Additionally, Garcia and Bejin face charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.

The U.S. Department of Justice reported that this operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 10 million doses of drugs. And included a staggering eight million doses of fentanyl- and methamphetamine-laced pills and powders. The estimated street value of these substances is $8 million.

Attorney General's Response

Attorney General Merrick B. Garland expressed his outrage over the case, stating, "The only thing more depraved than trafficking deadly fentanyl is trafficking deadly fentanyl designed to look like candy to appeal to teenagers. The Justice Department is focused on attacking every link in the global fentanyl trafficking chain, and we will not stop until those responsible for the fentanyl poisoning epidemic are brought to justice."

The investigation leading to the drug seizure began in July 2023 after an overdose death occurred in Salem, Massachusetts. This incident triggered an inquiry that eventually exposed a drug trafficking operation believed to be masterminded by Garcia, Bejin, and Felix.

After three months of surveillance investigators executed search warrants on November 1 at four locations in Lynn, Massachusetts.

The primary objective was to apprehend Garcia, Bejin, and Felix.

Search and Seizure

During these searches, authorities made the drug discovery, with the Department of Justice suggesting that this was one of the largest single-location seizures of fentanyl and methamphetamine in Massachusetts and the surrounding region.

The search yielded more than 200 pounds of drugs. Among these, approximately 20 pounds consisted of heart-shaped fentanyl-laced pills designed to resemble pink Valentine's Day candy. Even more alarming, around 180 pounds of the seized drugs were found in the basement of a two-family residential home, where multiple families, including small children, resided.

The vast assortment of drugs included 22 pounds of methamphetamine and cocaine base, 37 pounds of suspected raw methamphetamine (equivalent to approximately 3.5 million doses), and 61 pounds of Percocet pills suspected to contain fentanyl (approximately 280,000 doses).

Also found were 59 pounds of Adderall pills believed to contain methamphetamine, and four pounds of brown substances resembling rocks and powder, which tested positive for methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine (equal to approximately 900,000 doses).

The large presence of deadly doses of the drugs surprised law enforcement. And police said that the Fentanyl-laced pills posed a grave threat to public health and safety.
