Arcos’s assassination underscores the city’s struggles to break free from the grip of these criminal forces. These cities have long since struggled with local cartel influence, and continue to feel the effects of wanton violence.
Local officials haven’t identified suspects yet, but have a list of person-of-interest with ties to local cartels. The biggest obstacle to bringing the killers to justice is getting witnesses who are willing to testify against criminals who are well-known for carrying out violent retaliations against anyone who reports their activities to police.
The president also mentions more stringent border control operations and aims to make the cities like Guerero much safer. The increased federal and state response’s purpose is mainly to curb the high increase of violent crimes. Organized crime in these areas has spiked, due to multiple different variables. She assures that efforts are underway to catch every criminal who was complicit.
