The Carters’ enduring love story was highlighted when they made their last public appearance in September at the Plains Peanut Festival, shortly before Jimmy Carter’s 99th birthday.
In February of the same year, the former president entered hospice care at home. And Rosalynn joined him in hospice care just 2 days before her death.
Following the memorial service in Atlanta, Rosalynn’s body was transported to Plains for the private funeral and interment. Maranatha Baptist Church, the couple’s longtime home church, served as the backdrop for the intimate farewell.
