Unfortunately, the findings of this study aren’t good news for many Americans. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey is on record confirming that 57% of Americans over the age of 18 eat ultra processed foods. Even in minors, the rate of consumption stands at a staggering 67%.

It’s not hard to see why. For many folks, throwing a meal in the microwave, eating it, and continuing on with their day seems simple enough. This can feel like a godsend for Americans with extremely busy schedules. Though it is ultimately hurting them in the long run, even if the ramifications aren’t immediately apparent.

Why are ultra processed foods so dangerous?

Ultra processed foods are loaded with carbohydrates, fats, sodium, and, of course, sugar. At the same time, they’re quite low in fiber and nutrients that are good for the body.

In the worst case scenarios, some ultra processed foods have also been found to carry high amounts of contaminates and additives. Neither of these substances are healthy for humans to consume, especially on a regular basis.
