Lawsuit Alleged Violations of Colorado Law
The July complaint, filed in state court, claimed PetSmart’s training repayment agreement violated both the Colorado Consumer Protection Act and the Colorado Restrictive Employment Agreement Act. According to the suit, groomers were bound by a contract requiring repayment of $5,500 if they quit within the first 11 months, or $2,750 if they departed during their second year—terms the state said unfairly trapped employees in their jobs.
The agreement shuts the door on the claims but not on the broader message: Colorado says deceptive employment terms won’t be tolerated, even in sectors as common as pet grooming.
